Hi David, I think you know how I feel about this but I'll say it anyway and that it's all a journey. I lose my directional compass when I start to seek harsh "shoulds". When I am in full freedom mode, I'm just priming the engine and eventually, I'll find something that leads me to a tiny light somewhere that starts calling me in. That's when a little discipline comes in.

I wandered for 20 years, directionless, but I had fun the whole way. Slowly, it all came together for me. But those "phases" and "experiments" eventually showed their value.

And I've never made a zine... I wanted to, but it just didn't work for me. That's ok. I've done other things. Great seeing your thoughts here.

I really enjoyed the series, so thanks for posting. BTW, if you like pastel, check out Wes Anderson's films and the "Accidentally Wes Anderson" website and books.

I noted your comment about Substack offering the freedom to post whatever, whenever. That's certainly true but, when I was on social media, I found myself doing precisely that anyway, because the likes of Instagram never rewarded consistency of approach where content is concerned. I'm still pretty new to Substack and I don't post a lot of content but my aim is to distil my content into short-term and long-term projects. I'll use it to inform decisions on what I include in / exclude from my website. I'm not a professional but I want to put good work out there, not just a random selection of unconnected images.

Anyway, keep on keeping on. Best....
